Coelophysis – Signed Fine Art Print
Information about the Coelophysis: The Coelophysis is an extinct species of dinosaur, first described by Edward Drinker Cope in 1889. The name means “hollow form” which is a reference to the animal’s hollow bones. It is one of the earliest known genera of dinosaur. The Coelophysis was a small biped that lived during the Late Triassic (Norian stage) This carnivore lived in what is now the southwestern United States. This lightweight and agile dinosaur grew to about 9 feet long (3 meters.) With it’s large eyes it had exceptionally good eyesight. This animal likely feed exclusively on meat. While it might have been a scavenger, feeding on whatever dead animal it might have encountered it is also possible that it was a predator, hunting in packs or in pairs – which would make it easier to take down prey larger than itself. It is the official fossil of the state of New Mexico in the USA.
